In addition to traditional tummy tuck techniques, Dr Vlad Milovic offers the Brazilian tummy tuck or waist recontouring technique for suitable patients. The Brazilian tummy tuck is a relatively new and advanced procedure in plastic and cosmetic surgery, and as always, you will need to ensure that your surgeon is qualified to perform it. Dr Milovic is one of the few experienced plastic and cosmetic surgeons who are currently offering this procedure in Australia.

The Brazilian tummy tuck procedure was invented in 2008 and is an advanced surgical technique from the traditional abdominoplasty. There is often faster recovery time, reduced risks of wound healing problems and limited loss of sensation above the scar. The difference between the techniques is related to a change in fundamental understanding by experienced surgeons in this field; however, the same amount of skin, from above the umbilicus to the top of the pubic hairline, is removed and the rectus abdominis muscles are tightened. The umbilicus is repositioned in both procedures.

The Brazilian tummy tuck is a surgical procedure most commonly performed on patients both women and men who have excess loose skin and fat in the abdominal region. This can be caused by multiple pregnancies, substantial weight loss or even simply heredity. Dr Milovic will discuss this option with you at your first consultation. Your goals and expectations are most important and these will also be discussed during your consultation.

Risks of Surgery

All surgical procedures carry risks and the potential for complications. While Dr Milovic is extensively trained and experienced with a comprehensive array of plastic surgery procedures and utilizes advanced techniques to help mitigate those risks, patients considering treatment should always be fully aware of them beforehand. Dr Milovic will go over all risks and potential complications associated with the procedure during the initial consultation, and we are happy to address any questions or concerns you may have.

Risks of this procedure include, but are not limited to:

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it right for me?

A Brazilian tummy tuck is a very personal decision and you should have realistic goals and expectations before undergoing surgery. Dr Milovic will examine your abdomen during your initial consultation. He will then evaluate whether a Brazilian tummy tuck procedure may achieve an improvement and meet your goals and expectations. If you are planning to have more children it is typically advisable to wait to have surgery.

Will I need anaesthesia?

Abdominoplasty is most often performed under general anaesthesia and will require a hospital stay. The procedure can take between two to three hours to complete.

Modern anaesthesia is safe and effective, but does have some risks. Ask Dr Milovic and your anaesthetist for more information. You can be assured that Dr Milovic will engage the services of a qualified anaesthetist who is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and NZ College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) to perform your sedation and general anaesthesia.

Dr Milovic and/or your anaesthetist will ask you about all the medications you are taking or have taken, and any allergies you may have. Please make sure you have an up-to-date list before the surgery.

Will I have scarring?

Although some degree of scarring can be expected after a Brazilian tummy tuck, Dr Milovic always strives to place incisions as inconspicuously as possible. Brazilian tummy tuck incisions are generally made on the bikini line, but this can vary.

If you wish, Dr Milovic can incorporate scar healing techniques (e.g. silicone gel and laser procedures) into your treatment plan.

What are the risks with a Brazilian Tummy Tuck?

As with all surgeries, there are risks and potential complications. Dr Milovic will discuss these with you prior to any surgery taking place.

Where will the surgery take place?

Dr Milovic will only perform your Brazilian tummy tuck surgery in an accredited operating facility.

What is the recovery period after Brazilian Tummy Tuck?

Recovery time will vary from patient to patient and will also depend on the extent of the surgery. Expect at least two weeks off of work to allow for complete rest and another one week for all swelling and bruising to disappear. Light exercise may be resumed within two to three days, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least two to three months. You will be given post-surgery instructions to follow and if you have any questions, please speak to Dr Milovic.
