Double Chin Reduction & Neck Liposuction

Stubborn fat deposits found under the chin and along the neck can develop for a variety of reasons, including weight fluctuation, genetics, aging, and the use of certain medications. For women and men who struggle with excess fat in the chin and neck areas and desire a more defined jawline, reduction of a double chin, and/or more slender neck contours, customised liposuction treatment performed by Dr Vlad Milovic can provide an effective solution.

What is Chin and Neck Liposuction?

Chin and neck liposuction involves the use of liposuction techniques to remove unwanted fat and sculpt the chin and neck areas. The liposuction process breaks down fat cells and suctions them from the body, allowing skin with good elasticity to retract over the recontoured frame. Chin and neck liposuction is typically well suited for patients bothered by the presence of a double chin, lack of jawline definition, and/or fullness along the neck. In order to be a good candidate for chin and neck liposuction, the aforementioned concerns must be caused by the presence of unwanted fat, rather than a combination of drooping excess skin and fat. Patients who present with sagging skin are typically better suited with a combination of neck lift surgery and liposuction techniques to achieve an optimal outcome in these regions.

What Causes a Double Chin?

There are many reasons that a double chin may develop. For some individuals the cause is weight gain or weight fluctuations, while others may come by a double chin through genetics or the natural ageing process. In some cases, an individual’s appearance may be affected by the use of certain medications which lead to the development of fat deposits in the neck and facial regions. Whatever the cause may be, Dr Milovic is experienced in using a variety of techniques to address the appearance of a double chin, including both liposuction and neck lift procedures (depending on the patient’s specific needs).

Who Is a Candidate for Chin and Neck Liposuction?

Candidates for chin and neck liposuction are generally in good health, have a good degree of skin elasticity, and desire the removal of excess fat from beneath the chin and/or along the neck region. Dr Milovic determines the appropriate technique for each patient by conducting a comprehensive consultation. During this process, he performs a physical examination and takes the time to understand the outcome you desire to achieve. For patients with excess skin as well as fat, Dr Milovic may recommend additional procedures, such as a facelift and neck lift, in combination with liposuction to create optimal aesthetic improvement. For every patient, Dr Milovic develops a personalised treatment plan unique to the specific needs and goals they present to him—this allows him to create the beautiful, natural-looking results he is known for.

What Happens During Chin and Neck Liposuction?

Chin and neck liposuction is usually performed as a day procedure under general anaesthesia or twilight sedation. To begin, tiny incisions are made around the treatment area, through which the liposuction cannula (a small hollow tube) can be inserted. As the cannula is moved through the area, it liquifies the fat and suctions it from the body until an adequate amount is removed and an optimal contour is achieved. This process is repeated in all of the regions identified for treatment.

What is Recovery after Chin and Neck Liposuction Like?

Following the procedure, you will remain wrapped in compression bandages to protect your incisions, provide support, and aid in proper healing. You can expect to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the initial phase of recovery. Over-the-counter pain relievers and prescription medications, as well as cold compresses, can help alleviate discomfort while you rest. It is also important to keep your head elevated at all times to help control swelling. Most patients require at least two to three days off from work to recover, though some prefer to take a week. Minor swelling may persist for a couple of months as the body heals, and Dr Milovic will keep you apprised of your progress during your follow-up appointments. Dr Milovic typically recommends abstaining from vigorous exercise and heavy lifting for the first six weeks of recovery.
