Risks of Surgery

All surgical procedures carry risks and the potential for complications. While Dr Milovic is extensively trained and experienced with a comprehensive array of plastic surgery procedures and utilises advanced techniques to help mitigate those risks, patients considering treatment should always be fully aware of them beforehand. Dr Milovic will go over all risks and potential complications associated with the procedure during the initial consultation, and we are happy to address any questions or concerns you may have.

Risks of this procedure include, but are not limited to:

What is Chin and Neck Liposuction?

Chin and neck liposuction involves the use of liposuction techniques to contour the chin and neck areas. The liposuction process was designed to break down fat cells and suction them from the body.

Who Is a Candidate for Chin and Neck Liposuction?

Candidates for chin and neck liposuction are generally in good health and have a good degree of skin elasticity. Dr Milovic determines the appropriate technique for each patient by conducting at least two comprehensive consultations. During these meetings, he will perform a physical examination and take the time to understand the outcome you desire to achieve.

Facelift Surgery vs. Chin and Neck Liposuction

While both facelift surgery and chin and neck liposuction aim to alter the appearance of the lower face and neck, they address different anatomical issues and utilise distinct surgical techniques. A facelift focuses on lifting and repositioning skin, muscle, and deeper tissue layers to address sagging and loss of definition. In contrast, chin and neck liposuction is often best suited for patients who have good skin elasticity but excess fat beneath the chin or around the jawline and neck. Liposuction can remove that fat, but it cannot reposition muscle or redrape loose skin.

During your consultations, Dr Milovic will assess your anatomy, skin quality, and aesthetic goals to determine which approach may best align with your needs.

What Happens During Chin and Neck Liposuction?

Chin and neck liposuction is usually performed as a day procedure under general anaesthesia or twilight sedation. To begin, tiny incisions are made around the treatment area, through which the liposuction cannula (a small hollow tube) can be inserted. As the cannula is moved through the area, it liquifies the fat and suctions it from the body until an adequate amount is removed and an optimal contour is achieved. This process is repeated in all of the regions identified for treatment.

What is Recovery after Chin and Neck Liposuction Like?

Following the procedure, you will remain wrapped in compression bandages to protect your incisions, provide support, and aid in proper healing. You can expect to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the initial phase of recovery. Over-the-counter pain relievers and prescription medications, as well as cold compresses, can help alleviate discomfort while you rest. It is also important to keep your head elevated at all times to help control swelling.

Most patients require at least two to three days off from work to recover, though some prefer to take a week. Minor swelling may persist for a couple of months as the body heals, and Dr Milovic will keep you apprised of your progress during your follow-up appointments. Furthermore, Dr Milovic typically recommends abstaining from vigorous exercise and heavy lifting for the first six weeks of recovery.

How Much Does Chin and Neck Liposuction Cost?

The cost of chin and neck liposuction in Melbourne depends on a number of individual factors, including the extent of fat removal required, the complexity of your case, and the techniques used during surgery. Other contributing factors may include the anaesthesia, hospital or day surgery fees, and post-operative care.
